Okay, so I may have neglected to explain the majority of my pictures...or at least what I've been doing here in Mexico. So here I go...All summer long I have been helping another missionary couple, Jack and Sheri with teams that have come here from the states. Jack and Sheri are the missionaries behind the mission trips that groups from churches in the states plan. They organize the work that the teams will do once they're here. Each team's work has basically the same format, but is done in different cities all over Mexico. Jack and Sheri's goal is to see that all of Mexico is saturated with the gospel.
So, what is the format for each team? Well, each team comes for a week to work. They start by attending the church that they are going to partner with for the week on Sunday. After this they usually get together Sunday afternoon with the Mexican Baptists who will help them during the week. They pack the gospel of John and any other flyers or info the church wants to provide into small plastic bags--usually 4,000 or more gospels.
On Monday morning the team meets at the church around 9:00am. They then split up into groups of 3 or 4 people along with 1 or 2 Mexicans. Each team is given a map of the area they are to cover in the community. Once that is done each team begins to prayer walk their area. They pray that the people will be open to receive the gospel of John, but more than that that they might accept Christ...but the main goal is to see who would be willing to have a Bible study in their home. If they say yes to having a Bible study, then this gives opportunity to disciple the community.
Tuesday through Friday the teams go door to door through their areas and give the gospel of John to each person and ask them about having a Bible study. The Americans are the ones who knock on the gate and speak to the Mexicans first...they say "Tengo un regalo para usted"--I have a gift for you. And then they hand the person the gospel and let the Mexican Baptist take over witnessing to the person.
Two days during the week at night, either at the church or in a park we have a party. There is face painting, soccer, basketball, toys for the kids, and a movie (such as the Jesus film) or a drama. And after this an invitation to accept Christ. It has been incredible to see and hear how lives have been changed through this ministry.
Over the course of the summer I have had the opportunity to work with teams from Florida, Mississippi/Alabama, and the last team (the largest one they've had yet) was about 95 people mostly teens from Washington state/Virginia/Florida and Texas.
My pictures are labeled based on where the team was from, or where we were working in Mexico.
It has been incredible! And I hope this cleared things up some. (And you know...I do like seeing comments on my photos too, otherwise I feel like I'm posting to myself...)
